Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirate's life for me! This last Wednesday, I saw the newest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean. I saw the movie with my friend who also loved the franchise. I remember when I saw the first POTC (Pirates of the Caribbean) I was amazed at the acting, the action, romance, and compelling storyline. My favorite characters were Captain Jack Sparrow (of course, I mean why wouldn't you like johnny Depp), will Turner, and Barbossa. I had a crush on Captain Jack Sparrow and will turner. I only liked Barbosa because he was sarcastic, funny, and made a great first villain. anyway, I have many different observations, opinions, and theories I'd love to share with you. So if you'd like to know what I thought of the movie keep on reading!

(Warning: if you haven't seen the previous movies this not-spoiler section may be slight spoilers, because this is the 5th movie in the franchise and if you haven't seen the previous movies this movie summary won't make sense. So go see the previous movies first )
if you haven't seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales movie this is the section you can read. So, first of all, I loved this movie. Here is a short summary of the movie:
A thrilling adventure about a young man and a young woman astronomer is on the search for Poseidon's trident to free the ones they love from a curse, joins them is down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow has been having many bouts of bad luck, it gets even worse when his old enemy Captain Salazar is freed from his cave-ridden tomb and seeks his revenge on Capt. Jack. Now Salazar seeks the trident as well to free themselves from their curse and to kill Jack in the process.
I didn't particularly like the previous sequel as much as this one, Stranger Tides. Because it lost the first movies magical recipe. Stranger Tides was a good movie, it was very enjoyable. However, it did not play a real relevant role to the main story. Stranger tides had jack in it but didn't really answer questions or further the story in a relevant way. The reason I say this is because in Dead man’s chest, is that last time we see will turner. He becomes the new captain of the flying dutchman and can't be with his family, what stranger tides should have been was showing us how it affected Elizebeth, having to raise a child by herself. But Dead Men Tell No Tales answered questions, furthered the storyline, and added something interesting new to characters we already know and love.
They had the recipe for the perfect POTC movie. The recipe for a great pirate of the Caribbean movie, in my opinion, is a mix of the following; The recipe is a good storyline, humor, action, fantastic special effects, and a bit of pirate romance. This movie had all of the things listed, and it had its original magic it did with the first movie. I was so pleased with the compelling storyline, it seamlessly connected to the previous movies. The only thing about the storyline I would have wanted different was to cover more of Elizabeth and will’s struggle and how it affected them. However, that might have added another hour to the movie.
Next, the humor was amazing! My friend and I laughed so hard throughout the movie. This movie had classic Jack humor and cunning and quick puns, jokes, and my favorite of all was some of the inside jokes. Having same old Jack back was great. Next, the film work of the film and the costumes were great and authentic to the time it was set in. overall it was an amazing movie I give Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales 4 out of 5 stars.

All right let's get down to the nitty-gritty details of this movie.
First of all, I’d like to cover the new characters we meet in this movie. First, there is Henry Turner (portrayed by Brenton Thwaites), he is the first new character we get to meet in this movie. I know we got to see a glimpse of him in Dead Man’s Chest, but I mean we get to know him as an adult. Henry is a smart, adventurous, and ambitious young man.
He seems to be in his early 20’s. Brenton (the actor who portrays Henry), is born in 1989, so he is 26 in real life. I think he is just 20 in the movie. Men typically could get drafted into the military at age 15 or 16, but I think he was 20 years old. When he was a child he looked about 10 years old. Anyway, age is not that important. I really liked Henry, he is very much like his father. He is headstrong, brave, and has good morals. However, he also has traits from his mother. Those traits are some of his looks, curiosity, and stubbornness.
I like how they build up his character from childhood to young adulthood. He did very well standing alone as his own person rather than being a clone of his father, which is nice. I also like how he accepts that Carina is smart and can handle herself, rather than completely reject her like the other men in France do. Just like his father did with Elizabeth. I like the equality in this movie they did very well with that. Pirates of the Caribbean has done well with gender equality in a couple movies. There were times when they included female pirates. I do understand that since this is set in the times of the French Revolution that there won't be many female pirates and that's fine if there were it wouldn't make sense with history. Unless it is an alternate dimension.
Next, I want to talk about Carina Smyth, she was portrayed by Kaya Scodelario. We first meet her, in the beginning, she is being accused of being a witch. Which gives you context of what time frame this movie is taking place in. Anyway, she is being accused of being a witch, because she is smart and knows how to calculate and read stars. Carina is spunky, smart, stubborn, adventurous, And sometimes snarky. I liked her character because she was a smart and independent woman. Later in the movie, we find out that Barbossa is her father. I was shocked as much as everyone else in the theater. I'm also excited to see more of her in future installments of Pirates of the Caribbean.
The third new character we met was Capt. Salazar. Salazar was a Spaniard navy captain that set out to cleanse the sea of pirates. We met in at the very beginning of the movie. He is an old enemy of jack’s, now he seeks revenge from getting cursed. Or so we thought, once Jack gave away his compass somehow it freed them from the devil's triangle but not the curse. I liked him because he was a really cool Spaniard sailor, and also made a great villain. There were a few things that did not make sense about him. however, I will mention that later.
Now to cover the things that affected me the most in this movie. First, when Barbossa died after confessing to Carina that he was her father, I was crushed! And also Barbossa was one of my favorite characters. I cried a bit. The next thing that really opened the water works was at the end. When Will was finally able to return home and see Elizabeth was so satisfying. I was so happy I cried tears of joy. But again, I would like to have more or Elizabeth and will in the movie but that's ok. Perhaps we will get more of them in the next one.
One thing I'd like to point out that is always a constant in these movies. The scenery and the animations of the ocean are Amazing. The scene when the ocean split and they went to get the trident was breathtaking. I really enjoyed it. Also, the music is great. They revamped some original songs, and also added great new ones. Some Of the songs have an electric guitar and I really am enjoying the soundtrack.
The So the next thing I'd like to talk about was the cons of this movie, there weren't many, but there were some. First, the curse on Capt. Salazar didn't make sense to me. so I understand he got trapped and killed in the Devil's Triangle, but why of all things did the compass free them? They didn't really say it was magic other than it leads you to your greatest desires. It didn't mention being able to free people of curses. But then again they said when they gave Jack the compass to not betray it. I still don't understand what the compass has to do with the Devil's Triangle? Do you guys have any theories, or did I miss something?
The next con is there wasn't enough of the turners in the movie. I would've liked to know how they dealt with not being able to have a husband or father around. I'm not sure if it's just me And my friend who wants that or not but I think it would be good character development. The next thing I wanted in the movie but wasn't was Calypso not being in the movie. She could've played a great role in the movie.
I think there will be another one because there was a scene at the very end of the credits that left you on a cliffhanger. That usually means More is to come. it basically was Will have a nightmare that Davy Jones was coming for him. Then he wakes up to Davy Jones not being there. The last clip of it was him going to sleep and then showing water on the floor with a barnacle. That makes me wonder, is Davy Jones returning?
Conclusion
Overall, I think this movie was a great addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. I honestly can't wait for another movie. I have always been a fan of pirate movies and I think I always will. I give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
